Reward and Recognition: Help your people feel valued

When people feel appreciated at work, it can shape how they talk about their employer, how connected they feel and how likely they are to stay. Gallup and Workhuman found that employees receiving high-quality recognition were 45% less likely to have left their jobs two years later.

Recognition matters, but it’s easy to get wrong

My Group brings together the tools to make recognition consistent, meaningful and easy to manage, whether that’s a structured reward programme, peer-to-peer appreciation, long service awards or engagement support that helps employees understand and feel the value of what they receive.

“We’ve seen genuine improvement in retention, a more engaged team, and a far more professional approach to how we reward and recognise the people here. My Staff Shop has grown with us and so has the value we get from it.”

Rob Brookes, Business Principal, Severn Mortgage & Protect

What gets in the way of good recognition?

Most organisations want to recognise their people well. The gap between intention and reality is usually not about goodwill but about consistency. Recognition that depends on individual managers doing the right thing at the right moment tends to be uneven. Some teams feel appreciated while others don’t. And the employees who don’t, notice.

A structured approach to recognition can help close that gap. It gives managers the tools to act, sets clear expectations across the organisation, and helps recognition become part of everyday working life rather than something saved for annual reviews.

What does reward and recognition include?

My Group’s reward and recognition offering sits across two areas. Most organisations find one is a natural starting point, and many use both.

Employee Recognition Programme

Structured tools for recognising contribution, marking loyalty and making appreciation part of everyday working life. This includes reward programmes that HR teams can set up and manage, or give managers the freedom to recognise people within clear parameters set by HR, alongside peer-to-peer appreciation tools that let colleagues recognise each other in the moment and long service awards.

Employers can also use the programme to give small gifts for moments like birthdays, festive occasions and life events.

Where these meet HMRC’s trivial benefits conditions, including that they are not given as a reward for work or performance, they can be provided tax-free.
